Links with St. Peter's Church

Paul McCartney and John Lennon met at a church garden fete that was being held on the field that now contains the building and grounds of Bishop Martin C. E. Primary School.

The fete was held on 6th July 1957 in the church hall and grounds of St. Peter's Church, Woolton, Liverpool. The live music was provided by 'The Quarrymen' with one performance in the afternoon and the second in the evening.

After watching The Quarrymen's afternoon performance Paul McCartney and his friend Ivan Vaughan took a walk from the field to the Church hall where The Quarrymen were preparing for their appearance at the 'Grand Dance.' They were booked to play two sections with the first starting at 8.45pm.

At 6.48pm. Ivan Vaughan introduced Paul McCartney to John Lennon.

Celebration for BM

The celebration of that special day over fifty years ago happens over the weekend of the 6th, 7th & 8th July 2007.

A special church service starts the celebration at 6.30pm. in St. Peter's Church. Later in the evening the 'Quarrymen' will be performing again in the church hall. Tickets needed. A 'Grand Dance' follows on Saturday night and many bands will be performing in the school grounds on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the famous meeting in 1957.

Sad News

Quarrymen, Eric Griffiths, who played with the band at the Woolton Fete, died on 29th January 2005, after taking ill late last year. He will be sadly missed.
